Standard commentary on energy law sees passing of the edi-tor baton from Danner/Theobald to Theobald/Kühling

A new epoch begins for the commentary on energy law Danner/Theobald “Energierecht”: After 45 years Dr. Wolfgang Danner retires as editor of the standard reference work published by the renowned publishing house C.H.Beck. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kühling will join BBH partner Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald as co-editor.

The commentary Danner/Theobald, which was first published in 1937 and now comprises six volumes, has become the standard reference for everyone having to deal with energy law issues. Since 1974, Dr. Wolfgang Danner has been author and since 1980 also co-editor of the commentary. For 45 years, the former president of Germany’s Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) and for-mer partner of counsel at BBH has been part of the 82-year old history of the book as author and editor, having significantly contributed to the further development of the commentary during this time. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Dr. Wolfgang Danner was presented with a volume of essays titled “Energierecht im Wandel” to honour him for his lifetime achievements. A large number of BBH lawyers have also participated as authors in this volume of essays.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kühling will now take over Dr. Danner’s position. Prof. Dr. Kühling holds the Chair in Public Law, Real Estate Law, Infrastructure Law and Information Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Regensburg. Since 2016, he has also been a member of the Monopolies Commission. The new editorial duo of the commentary Theobald/Kühling, i.e. Prof. Dr. Christian Theobald, who has been edi-tor already since 2004, and Prof. Dr. Kühling, will continue to address the challenges of the energy transition with a consistent reflection on the legal framework in the form of regular supplements to be published four to five times a year.
