Industry 2030: The challenges of the digital transformation and the energy transition

BBH to hold its parliamentary evening on 23 April in Berlin

On 23 April 2018, the commercial law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) will stage its traditional parliamentary evening at the premises of the German Parliamentary Society (Deutsche Parlamentarische Gesellschaft) in Berlin. Featuring high-profile guests from the world of industry, politics and science, this event – which will be held under the auspices of the Member of the Bundestag Bernd Westphal (SPD) – promises an exciting debate on the topical subject of financial security in times of energy transition and digital transformation. With about 300 registrations received so far, this year’s parliamentary evening is met with great interest.

With a share of 24% of the gross value added, the German industry stands for growth, prosperity and jobs. Germany enjoys an international reputation for having a stable and well-positioned economy. Will this continue to be the case in the future though as the legal and economic framework is changing at an ever faster pace? Massive investments and progress are needed if the German economy is to successfully accomplish the energy transition and digital transformation. While there clearly is a willingness to change and innovate, the lack of planning security threatens to impair or even destroy the value of the necessary investments.

With its parliamentary evening on 23 April 2018, BBH will bring together representatives from politics, industry and science. The event will be centred on the question as to how the political discourse is to be conducted in order to create reliable guidelines for the economy (economic policy). Dr. Martin Iffert (Chief Executive Officer of TRIMET), Dr. Patrick Graichen (Director of Agora Energiewende) and Dr. Ralph Müller (Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Postbank) have been invited to provide input for the debate. The evening will be concluded by a parliamentary panel discussion in which the experts from the Bundestag parliamentary groups will examine the “carrot and stick” approach of the industrial policy.

Becker Büttner Held is a leading provider of advisory services for energy and infrastructure companies and their customers.
