The award ceremony took place at the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche in Berlin on 18 March. The Wolf-Büttner Prize was presented to Jan Hähnlein, who launched the charity walk “HEROS Spendenmarsch” and established it as a recurring charitable event in Thuringia with the help of his team of volunteers. The registration fees for the walks and all other donations go entirely to the NCL Foundation, which supports research into childhood dementia (NCL) and funds therapy approaches.
“At BBH, we have to make judgment calls every day but deciding who to award this prize to is one of the hardest. This exemplary project raises awareness of a rare childhood disease, and we are happy to give it our support,” said Prof. Christian Held when presenting the prize.
The laudatory speech was delivered by Dr. Andreas Roß, a board member of TEAG Thüringer Energie AG, which had nominated the project. “We have been supporting social projects since 2013, because we believe not only in creating economic value but also social value. We are delighted to present this year’s prize to the initiative.”
The BBH group established the Wolf-Büttner Prize in 2020 to raise awareness of community engagement at municipal and regional level and to honour the memory of the law firm’s co-founder Wolf Büttner. A four-member jury selects the winner from nominations made by the law firm’s clients. The Wolf-Büttner Prize sculpture was created by the Berlin painter and sculptor Matthias Zinn.
