Agrivoltaics as key to a successful energy transition - BBH contributes to discussion paper for a faster expansion

Agrivoltaics can make an important contribution to a successful energy transition, particularly in view of the dual use of land for solar power generation and agriculture.

In cooperation with Elysium Solar, the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and the German Energy Agency (dena), the BBH group drafted a discussion paper on agrivoltaics. BBH covered the relevant legal topics. The paper presents the market development and provides an overview of key areas of action for successfully promoting agrivoltaics. This includes the reassessment of agrivoltaics in the context of spatial and regional planning, a funding framework that is open to all technologies and an increase in the visibility of this technology by strengthening research and targeted communication measures in the agricultural sector.

BBH partner and lawyer Jens Vollprecht, who also holds a degree in forestry, is very pleased with the result: “The application of agrivoltaics is in its early stages and harbours great potential for the future of the agricultural and energy transition. I am thus all the more pleased that we were able to present these potentials in the discussion paper and develop ideas for a fast and successful expansion based on an interdisciplinary approach.
