In his practice, Dirk Hendricks focuses on the promotion of renewable energy sources in Europe, Africa and Latin America. He was involved in the legislative process for the Renewable Energy Directives and their implementation, and specialises in renewable financing schemes. In his capacity as Secretary General of EREF, he is the link between European renewable energy sector companies as well as European and international associations and organisations. Thanks to his previous positions in Europe and Africa, Dirk Hendricks has an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of environmental and species protection issues.

  • Born in Freiburg/Breisgau in 1971
  • Married with three children
  • 1993-2000 studies of economic history, political science and German literature and linguistics at the University of Münster (first state examination and Magister Artium)
  • 1995-1996 self-organised exchange year at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. (USA) focusing on international relations and international law
  • 2000-2001 studies of European politics, economy and law at University College Dublin (Master of Economic Science)
  • 2002-2004 United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Bonn Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
  • Since 2004 in Brussels, work in senior positions for and on boards of directors of organisations in the area of environmental and species protection (IFAW, IUCN) and from 2007 in the field of renewable energy (World Future Council and the industry associations ESHA and EREF)
  • Since 2015 policy advisor for BBH Brussels
